Consultation

What’s my first step?

Call our office anytime, whether you have a simple question or need to discuss a serious and immediate legal situation. We’ll start things off by gathering some facts about your matter from you in a ten-minute call.

If you’d like to get in touch but don’t have the time for a call, feel free to contact us and we’ll be sure to reply promptly.

Once we’ve obtained the necessary information, our attorneys will review your situation to determine the best way to move forward, then we’ll work to schedule a time for you to come in to the office to meet with us for a legal consultation (or conduct a consultation by phone if an office appointment is inconvenient).

How do I prepare for the consultation?

Start by listing out your goals, objectives, optimal outcomes, and any questions or concerns you have. This will ensure we address your matter thoroughly – and it will also help you think through some of the legal issues ahead of our meeting. This is a simple step that leads to a more informative, efficient, and constructive consultation all around.

Next, gather your documents and provide us with any you want us to review in advance of your consultation. If you already have a legal matter pending, compile any legal documents that have been completed, filed with the court, or served, so you have them handy. If you have any recent orders, a premarital agreement, or were just served with papers, send them in prior to your consultation for our review. The more information we review in advance, the better we’ll be able to understand your situation and discuss your optimal solutions and the steps to get there.

What happens at the consultation?

During the consultation you’ll meet with one of our attorneys to review the legal issues particular to your situation, discuss potential outcomes, and outline strategies for resolution. The consultation is also the time and space where we get to know each other, and you’ll be able to assess if the attorney is a good fit to help you with your matter.

What will this process cost?

Our legal consultations are charged at a pro-rated hourly cost that is based on the length of the meeting. The initial consultation is extremely valuable, as you will receive a focused overview of your legal issues, potential outcomes and the best approaches to reach resolution – all in the span of about an hour.

The overall cost of reaching a resolution is impossible to estimate. Total cost will depend on certain key variables such as the complexity of the issues presented, the way you want to approach resolution (litigation, mediation, or background coaching), and how long it takes to reach an agreement or obtain court orders, as well as numerous other factors – all of which are unpredictable given all the people involved.
